Chinese Button Necklace

While I was preparing to launch my new line, I managed to squeeze in a few new experimental designs as well. This simple necklace features a traditional Chinese button, frequently used for cheongsam and other traditional Chinese outfits.

This necklace do not have a clasp, but is instead worn by buttoning and unbuttoning the button itself. :D

Around the World - Romania - A+Design

I have seen a lot of crocheted jewelry for as long as I'm on Etsy, but none so unique like A+Design. (or aplusdesignnn) Hailing from Romania - which is the new country we are featuring for this week's post, Anda Toma is the creator of these whimsical crocheted creations. Unlike traditional crocheted jewelry, there is a certain organic and unique look to her pieces. It's almost like they are alive.

Meet Mr Daruma

Meet Mr Daruma, one of the family members of little dolls and sculptures on my display shelf. He was born blind, but with my pen I gave him one eye so he could see. He loves to perch up high above something, so he could see far and wide with his one good eye.

You might recognize the Daruma doll from Japanese cultures, a dear friend of mine got this for me during her trip to Japan in a temple. Daruma dolls are considered as a symbol or perseverance and good luck, and are usually used as motivators and goal setting. The receiver of the doll will set a goal to achieve while they draw in one eye, and when the goal is achieved, they would draw in the other, completing the Daruma.

So... what is my goal? You wonder? 1000 sales on in my Etsy shop Skyejuice. :) One day, Mr Daruma, one day you will have both eyes. I must persevere!!

Around the World - Switzerland - Lindecise

By now, you should realize that I love colorful jewelry. I mean, the jewelry I make are colorful! :) The same can be said for Lindecise's gorgeous jewelry. made from a variety of materials, ranging from polymer clay to embroidered cotton fabric and laces, her jewelry pieces have colorful patterns and are such fun to look at!

This is the last post on Switzerland. :) And one interesting fact that I noticed is that all four are from different areas in Switzerland, in comparison to Austria's posts where all four are from Vienna. The Etsians from Switzerland are from Geneva, Neuchatel, Zurich and Basel city. Interesting! :)

Working on Something New

Just a little sneak peek of some work in progress. :) It's coming soon I hope!

Sweet Bestiary

Ever since I got Mr Bear, I've been looking at a lot of clay miniature sculptures. Planning to get another one so soon? Perhaps not, as I need to control my spendings!! (who doesn't?) Sweet Bestiary is among some of my favorites so far that I had found. Maybe it's just Mr Bear affecting me, but I love her bears too! Ursus the polar bear is just too cute! Of course, her bunnies are equally adorable, and she has a variety of other products too such as brooches and art dolls. What I love about her shop is her consistent style and clean photograph, which makes her stand out. Maybe one day... I will get something from her and expand the growing family of little handmade sculptures on my shelf. :)

Around the World - Switzerland - Umbu

I love it when I find unique shops with a great niche, and Umbu is definitely one of them! Unique lampshades made from upcycled materials, such as old maps, old magazines, old music sheets and even old sewing patterns! Giving new life to old and otherwise junk materials, this type of creative innovation is something I really love about handmade. :) Aside from lampshades, Umbu creates word magnets as well. Too cute!

Three Red Apples

I've always loved hoop art, Three Red Apple's particularly. :) I think it's no stranger that I love all things colorful, and I love patterns as well, so her embroidery art are all up my alley. There is just this really fun look to her work, child-like even. And I just love the way she matches the different fabrics and colors for her hoops. I still want to start a collection of hoop art and dedicate a whole wall to it, one day... I shall have one!

My Milk Toof

If you had not heard about My Milk Toof before, you are sorely missing out.

My Milk Toof is kind of like a webcomic, but only in photography format. It tells the story about two milk tooths (or better knows as baby teeth) that returned to their owner. At first, you may find it odd. (like how I did in the beginning) The two characters just looked really strange, but Ickle and Lardee really do grow on you quickly if you continue reading.

There is a certain charm to the way the story was told, it's very simple, and totally adorable. :) It is like reading a children's storybook, only that it's suitable for adults too. And gosh, the attention to detail in ALL the photographs, the mini props, the composition and just... EVERYTHING! Is so amazing!! It's even more amazing that the photographer made all the props herself. :D

If you are interested to read more, just pop onto her blog to read about Ickle and Lardee's adventures. She also have some work in progress photos and videos there. You can also find her photographs on her flickr, and if you are interested to buy her merchandises, you can check out her shop too.

The best yet! My Milk Toof is already printed in a book! :) I had went through it, and it is amazing! Not only was it a fun and relaxing read, it would be wonderful to be told as children's bedside story too.

Around the World - Switzerland, Be Charmed Designs

I am certainly charmed by Be Charmed Design's jewelry. Hailing from Zurich, Switzerland, Simona - the owner of Be Charmed Designs makes these really cool and simple bracelets with sterling silver and waxed linen cord - now that is some materials that you don't see everyday in jewelry. Not only are these bracelets simple and perfect for everyday wear, they look fantastic stacked and layered too! If you are looking for an alternate and classier version of friendship bracelets, look no further. :)

Meet Mr Bear from LePetitCirque

Meet Mr Bear!

Bear thought he looked rather dashing today. He was especially proud of his silver buckles. He stopped by a balloon man and chose the biggest, reddest balloon. The trees had begun to shed their leaves for winter and Bear hurried along. He hoped that when she saw the balloon, she would forgive him. He really hadn’t meant to break her doll.

Excerpt taken from LePetitCirque.

I couldn't resist the dashing-ness of Bear and bought him from LePetitCirque quite recently. He is just too adorable in his green trousers and yellow suspenders, holding his big red balloon. And so well made too!

Unfortunately, Lissa's shop is on vacation right now as she is expecting a baby very very soon. :D I'm lucky to have gotten Bear before he was sold, because who knows when she will start making again? (hopefully she does in the near future though!)

Now I have a new family member on my little shelf. I am contemplating introducing the rest of the family members one by one on the blog, what do you think?

Mid Autumn Festival

Mom's homemade mooncake, although a little shabby looking, is still the best mooncakes ever! :) For chinese, Monday is the Mid Autumn's Festival where we celebrate by eating mooncakes, having tea and light the house up with colorful lanterns. Family decide to celebrate a day earlier at my grandma's place. Although I am a little too old to play with lanterns... (it is mainly for children) I can still enjoy some mooncake along with my afternoon tea. :)

Happy Mid Autumn's Festival!

Jackie Rueda

The beginning of Autumn marks the end of Summer. So had you went one last time to the beach yet? Had you picked your last sea shell and enjoyed your last day under the sun before the season of Autumn rolls over?

To celebrate the end of Summer (hopefully you had a great one!) here are some gorgeous photos from Jackie Rueda for your enjoyment! I love the marine biology series, the bright colors are such a joy to look at. And her food photography is just too cute!

Antique Bronze Necklaces

New pieces that I had been experimenting on recently! :) Started delving into antique bronze materials, as you can see from the charm bracelets that I've posted before. I've been wanting to try making long necklaces as well. The one above is about 32 inches long, with a dazzle of shiny glass crystal teardrops cluster as pendant.

This one is actually a long lariat. Observe how it could be worn. :)

Fantastic right? I bet there are a few other ways you can wear this if experimented further.

And finally, something simpler and lighter.

So what do you think? Which one is your favorite? :D They will be listed into the shop over the next few days, so watch out for them!

Around the World - Austria, Felicity Crew

I just love the vintage vibe from Felicity Crew. She mainly sells fine art prints of her gorgeous travel photography, but she also sells these really cute vintage paper cut outs in shapes of hearts, circles and scalloped circles. Just adorable isn't it? I also love how she managed to keep the shop looking consistent with a similar color mood throughout, simply amazing!

Little Squirrel

One of my favorite photos I took when I was in San Francisco. :) A brave little squirrel came up to me seeking food when I was walking around the San Francisco Botanical Garden. I quickly snap a picture while I had the chance! A split second later the little guy turned around and crawled away, since I did not offer him any food. (we were told strictly not to feed the squirrels anyway) The place is just crawling with squirrels!

Around the World - Austria, Good Morning Midnight

Good morning - Midnight, what an intriguing shop name! And even more intriguing are the clothes in this Etsy shop from Austria. By using simple geometric shapes in an asymmetrical style, they created an interesting line of casual clothing. They look really comfy too! :D Best of all, they have a few pieces for men as well and they look equally stylish.

Helena

Black Veiled Mini Top Hat - Orphelia // Vintage Navy Blue Gloves - VintageEyeFashion
Black Coffin Greeting Card - HerDarkHalf // Today's Meditation - couragemylove
Pyramid Post Earrings - tinygalaxies // Black Milk Mixed Media Reconstruction Artwork - ingridArtStudio

To view the full treasury : Helena

Today's collection was inspired by one of my favorite songs of all time - Helena by My Chemical Romance! I still remember the first time I saw that MV on TV, I just could not pull my eyes away. The choreograph was just simply mind blowing, the energy so pure, and the song was so addictive! I went to get the song immediately afterwards, and had been a big fan of My Chemical Romance since then. :D My favorite album is still Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge though, with Danger Days coming close. Surprisingly not too fond of The Black Parade.

Gems in Red and Green

New items in the shop! Coincidentally they are red and green colored. o.O Teal quartz, garnet, ruby and mystic green onyx. I have more coming too! Because I'm kind of on a creating frenzy haha!!

On an unrelated note, had you guys checked out the new blogger interface? It is definitely a lot more flexible and much cleaner than the old one, but I'm still trying to get used to it. Still prefer wordpress's interface though if you ask me. :D
