Around the World - Miami, FL - Glows Shop

Still in the unique urban vine from the last feature from the city of Miami, I bring you something a bit more urban decay this time. Glows Shop is a unique jewelry shop that creates interesting, perhaps one of a kind pieces from all sorts of items that some of us would consider as junk. Bullet casings, broken sea shells, junk metal, various rough gemstones and thick chains. The shop does remind me of dadaism to a certain degree. My favorite? Definitely the bullet casing pieces. I especially love that cluster key chain above with the spike and other random curiosities.

Around the World - Miami, FL - Weasel Wrks

Ocean Plaza 8.5x11 Print - csfitzgerald

Now that we're done with Detroit, I thought Miami would be a great next city, since I'm currently watching CSI: Miami and all, haha. So let's go to the biggest city in the sunshine state of Florida and see what they have to offer in handmade.

Let's start with something cool perhaps? Reusing skateboard decks, spray paint cans, old cassette tapes and more, Matt, the owner of Weasel Wrks created all these unusual and intriguing work of art. The urban industrial look is one of the strong points of these one of a kind, limited edition art pieces. And I must admit that the spray can lamps look really cool. The skateboard artworks which is a collaboration with another artist Danelly Liz, looks really cool too! If you love street art, you should definitely check out this unique shop! :)

Around the World - Atlanta, GA - Bel Atelier

I am so in love with soft pastel dreamy look of Tamara Lee's photography from Bel Atelier. Although she shoots a variety of different subjects, from food photography to city views to the beach, the soft pastel tones to her photo editing keeps the consistency of the shop together. The heart raspberry one is probably my favorite photo from her, just such a lovely idea and imagery. Although I love the colors of the pier shot too.

What about you? Which one is your favorite photo from Bel Atelier?

Around the World - Atlanta, GA - Wearable Planter

We've heard and known of planters on window sills and gardening corners, but had you heard of Wearable Planters before? Yes, people wearing planters instead of displaying them on their sunshine filled shelves. The idea is pretty ingenious in my opinion, small vases, small enough to wear as necklaces, brooches, boutonnieres for the men, or even attached to bags and bicycles. Plant in a tiny plant of your choice, air plants are optimum, succulents would work too, and you're good to go with a jewelry piece that is bound to start a conversation.

Around the World - Atlanta, GA - BZRshop

I have a thing for leggings that are not plain black color, and ombre is so totally in trend right now that I cannot not feature BZR shop. The gentle color gradient and how smooth it transitions, it's almost as good as the color gradient tool in Photoshop. Just... handmade! I can't decide which one is my favorite, I love the black to white one, I love the orange to white one too but I'm not sure if I could rock that color. Think you are trendy enough for ombre? Just pop by over the shop and check them out. :)

Visit to the Royal Palace

I visited the Istana Negara (Royal Palace) last week. Since the new palace was built and the Sultan moved there, the old palace had been open to the public for visiting purposes until June 15th. My mom showed interest in visiting, so I thought, hey why not? So off we go~

The royal seats!

It was a very bright and sunny day. The main exhibition was indoors that spans 3 halls, with royal clothing, accessories and the royal seats in display. It also includes some vintage camera and time pieces from the Sultan's personal collection. My personal favorite of the exhibit was actually the pretty chandeliers!

In overall, it was a pleasant visit. Though it's best to visit early since parking spaces is extremely limited.

June'12 Rejects Giveaway

It's time for another rejects giveaway! Every month I will hold a giveaway to give out one or two failed jewelry pieces - mainly resin pendants with impurities, obvious bubbles, resin seeping into the paper etc, even designs that I decided that I did not really like. Some of these mistakes are not very obvious and it can only be seen up close. So they can be worn without much worries!

This month, I am giving away these two beauties! A hand drawn leaf pendant, and another hand drawn raindrops over waves pendant.

There is nothing wrong with the green leaf pendant, I just feel that the design is unsuitable for the shop. Same with the raindrops pendant. But the raindrops pendant has resin leaked out on the top side. However it is not very obvious when worn since the resin is clear. These two designs are OOAK!!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE FLAWED/IMPERFECT!!
You will get them as is. I will not entertain complains and I do not accept returns. ;)

Around the World - Atlanta, GA - LaCocoRouge

Doesn't like pretty white flowers? Prefer something not so traditional for your wedding headpiece? Try checking out LaCocoRouge. :) Elaborate, Victorian, Carnivalesque, Burlesque, Steampunk-ish, are a few words to describe Stephanie's headpieces. Long feathers and shiny sequins are some of the common materials you can find in her work. Feel like an exotic queen on your wedding day! Not only weddings though, these would be great to perfect that stage play costume as well.

I have been preparing for this for a while now, but I finally launched my supplies shop on Etsy StarJuice! :)

So come check it out, fave my shop or items if you're not interested in buying, show some support! I would really appreciate it. :)

Around the World - Atlanta, GA - Liddabits

More wedding goodness from Atlanta! Looking for fun wedding decors and stationery? Check out Liddabits. :) I for one, love wedding photo props, although it is a trend not currently caught on in Malaysia yet. It just adds that bit of fun into the wedding photographs. I also love how Liz from Liddabits frame and set up her photographs for the shop, like the 'Love' bunting with two kids walking in the far background. The rest of the photos in the shop look really bright and happy too! Now that's how you sell to couples about to get married.

Around the World - Atlanta, GA - FineNFleurie

Still on the east side of the USA, let's travel southwards to the Atlanta city in Georgia and see what the bustling city can offer in terms of handmade.

Perhaps we can start with something pretty and dreamy, like Fine & Fleurie. They say that sales are better when you use live models to showcase your products. It's true especially for wedding accessories, because brides are always the prettiest! The beautiful dreamy photos, the demure models, and the perfect wedding accessory. Did you know that Jessica, the owner of Fine & Fleurie, hand sewn, cut and even dyed her own fabric. Now that is true handmade, and the success is well deserved. You can become a fan of her Facebook fanpage for discounts, sales and news. :)

Around the World - Detroit, MI - RiotJane

The Around the World series in a country or city will not feel complete without a photography shop, so here is my pick from Detroit - riotjane. :) I featured the dog in glasses picture before, but I love it so much so I decided to feature it again. What I love about her photography is the hint of forlorn and loneliness in her photos. It might not be the happiest things to look at, but it clicks with me and I like it. I just love the quiet beauty and the pretty colors.

Introducing Silver!

I don't believe I have introduced my new cat to ya'all yet. Here is Silver, my new 1 year old tabby! (Silver says hi too!)

I didn't found Silver, she found me! Three days after Ginger's passing I saw a grey tabby with the most beautiful mint green eyes sleeping on my porch. This never happens because the porch was Ginger's territory, and she was a very territorial cat. It took me a week before I get acquainted (ie: feed) this young tabby, as she was very timid and keep running away every time I come out of the house. I had to catch her when she was still half asleep.

Long story short, Silver is now my new porch cat! She loves to grovel at my feet, (I suspect she has a foot fetish) she absolutely loves to roll around on her back, she loves greenies, playing with feathers, going out hunting (she brought back two big rats before) and she loves to sleep against the wall.

Silver has a kinked tail, the ends curled up into a tight curl much like a spring, which caused this stubby look.

Her pretty mint green eyes. :)
