Creative Jewelry Displays

KL Design Week 2010 is just around the corner. Although I'm not going to the conference this year (they raised the ticket price like WHOA!) but I will be paying a visit to the exhibitions in Capsquare KL this weekend. :D To commemorate the event, I decided to post up some of the more unique jewelry displays I saw in KLDW 2009.

The ones below are all from the same displayer, I must say that their displays totally outshone their products, you could barely notice the chains and necklaces displaying on them. But hey, at least they were show-stoppers! I'm sure some more creative peeps could run away with the ideas and improve them for craft fairs and such. :)

Branches. Looks like they staked a pole through a bamboo and then stuck branches on it.

Hollow log with nails pointing outward. This one is potentially dangerous!

Personally, this one is my favourite. A bonsai growing out of a bullet box!

This one is just part of a standee, although I think it is quite cool. Recycled hard disks.

The two above are quite unique as well, very interesting shapes.

And last but not least, one that is completely unrelated to jewelry ahaha. But this is one of the best photos I took, not to mention the display is very interesting as well.

I forgot what were the shops/companies for the displays, I shall find out later and then I will update this post with links. :D

Edit 1: The last display was from Oh & Ah! Stands for OrangHutan & ArangHitam (translation: Jungle men & Black coal lol) Check out their blog for more unique and cute stuff!

Can't wait till the weekend! I will be sure to take more photos this time as well.

Shoe Craze

OMG!! These Cork Wedge Sandals from Chloe are just TOO CUTE!! I just can't help but gush over them and desperately went to the Chloe website to look for them when I first laid eyes on them on a blog. But the price tag... just breaks my heart. T_T I guess we were never meant to be~

I am a giant wedge fiend! For some reason, I just prefer them over heels. (Maybe because I haven't 'mastered' wedges yet, let alone heels) I currently only own 3 pairs of wedges, and 1 pair of silver heels, trying to curb that shoe-shopping urge mind you. Or else I'll have a new pair of shoes every month! The key is to not go shopping... at all! (or don't go into shoe stores at least) I try to wait until a pair fall apart before I buy new ones. Below are two of the most recent shoes I bought :)

This is one of my favourite shoes now! I love that it has a second strap in the middle, very comfortable to wear and looks cute to boot. The canvas insole has it's pros and cons, it can rub you the wrong way sometimes and it stains easily, very difficult to clean. Otherwise I loooove them! Vern's has some very affordable and cute shoes :)

This pair I bought earlier in February for Chinese New Year. Red is suitable for Chinese New Year right? There is actually a navy blue version that I initially wanted, but they sold out for my size. (can you tell I love sailor-themed shoes?) I have tiny feet. The red one is still cute though! So I'm not complaining. :)

New Fruity Bracelets

Thanks for the feedback on the last post, I had decided that I should just stick to what I already have instead of wasting time and energy fussing over old photos. Must concentrate on adding more item!

Here are the new batch of jewelry and stationary I made throughout last week, keeping up with one creation each day.

Title : Fruity Popsicle
Status : Available
Price : USD23.00

I had so much fun with this one! It reminds me of ice cream, the colors on the umbrella of the street side ice cream vendor. Paddle pop ice cream!! I haven't had those in a while.

Title : Kiwi Flower (bracelet)
Status : Available
Price : USD23.00

Like the one above, I tried to add more to the basic pearl cluster bracelets. This one with cute kiwi beads and green flowers. I made a shorter one for myself. (my wrist is super small!) So this would be the first item that is not OOAK. Lime green is such a difficult color to capture on film. :(

Title : Indian Dancer
Status : Available
Price : USD12.00

Title : Red Gypsy
Status : Available
Price : USD12.00

Both the earrings above looks so... indian! The Red Gypsy is actually made with upcycled toggle loops. Two sets of the toggles I bought have faulty sticks (broken/faulty loop) and since I have a pair, I decided I should not waste it. It's the same toggle I use for my bracelets.

And finally, bookmark restock! Since I sold most of my supplies not too long ago. The first one is inspired by Nite Owl from Watchmen :D

Title : Nite Owl
Status : Available
Price : USD12.00

Title : I Dream of a Garden
Status : Available
Price : USD12.00

Title : Kiwi Flower (bookmark)
Status : Available
Price : USD12.00

The Kiwi Flower bookmark was like a 'preliminary round' for the Kiwi Flower bracelet, an experiment with colors to see how they will look with the final product. If you're interested in buying them both as a set, contact me and we could discuss a discount! :D

New Art and Experiments

New art I did for one of my long term projects [Lab 305]. (5 years and counting!) Her design is based on a black widow spider. The entire composition/pose of the character was based on the sole idea of showing the red hourglass mark on her back, and then I just grow from there. The head piece came out better than I thought! Although, I think I should draw more since I'm way behind on my work list! Eeeek!

And I had been fooling around with the photos for my jewelry for a bit. Trying some new techniques inspired by the amazing SeaUnicorn!! Trying to see if I can create a cohesive photo collection, like... ways to make all of my photos look more coherent? Like it is a collection or something. (am I making sense? Lol)

So below is some of the edits I did for my old photos, please do tell which one you prefer, and your opinion on whether I should change or not.

Your feedbacks would be much appreciated!

Slowly It Grows

Whoo~ big update this time! :D I added a third column to the blog although it still needs some work arranging and sorting. But this will do for now!

To challenge myself, I had decided to create something new everyday. Maybe bracelets on TV nights while I'm watching my favourite shows, and simpler stuff like earrings, bookmarks and phone charms on my more busy, non-TV nights. Because the first step to creating a successful shop is to allow a large enough selection for the buyer. Although I won't be updating everyday, since I do have a full time job and when I get home the sky would already be dark, no sunlight for photos. :( So a weekly update it shall be~

Without further ado, here is this week's loot!

Title : Spring Bloom (available in gold, purple and pink)
Status : Available
Price : USD12.00

Title : Sunburst Citrine Earrings

I do realized a lot of my bracelets are food inspired. (especially with the Strawberry theme) I swear it wasn't intentional, I don't even like to eat strawberries in the first place! (except when dipped in chocolate fondue, mmm yumyum ♥ )

Army Of Colors

My personal army of colors! I went to supply up in the weekend and to summarize in one line, I won't be going into the city in a long long time. *is also very broke* These are my current supply of 6mm glass pearls. I had SO MUCH FUN color coordinating them it was no joke. There's just some wonder when you see them arranged nicely like this instead of in a mixed up chaos. I have more colors for my 8mm pearls, but I just haven't got the chance to photograph them yet. Maybe next time!

Last week was pretty hectic, and I took some time to pack and mail the things that was sold during the sneak attack. Let's just say I was unprepared... very unprepared. But I managed to mail out the packages in the weekend so let's hope they will see my little handmade precious in their mailbox in 2 weeks time! :D

I didn't make a lot during the week, these are all I made but I had a lot of fun making the bracelets! (three column blog coming soon I promise) Also, due to recent raise in postage for domestic mail, the prices currently (for Malaysia only) does not include shipment until I find out how much it is. Which should be soon, I hope.

I Still Can't Believe It

It's already over 14 hours, and I still can't believe it! Over the last 24 hours I had a total of 9 sales on Etsy! Not one, not two, but NINE!!! For the past 20 days since I listed my first bookmark on Etsy, I still haven't had any sales up until today. (or more accurately, yesterday night when I'm asleep!)

Normally when I turn on the PC at work in the morning, the first thing I do was to check my e-mails. And there was this list of 'Notification of payment received' titled e-mails. At first I even suspected they were spam mails! Until I saw the Etsy order confirmation ones! My first sales... *wibbling in joy* This calls for a celebration! And I think I will get some yummy Starbucks tomorrow morning yumyum ♥

This feat was all thanks to The Handmade Movement!! For I was their target in a 'sneak attack' on Monday! You should check out their blog to know more about this sneak attack. But I am forever grateful to them for featuring me! All the crews and members of the Sneak Team, you have my eternal gratitude.

I also managed to snatch a slot for a treasury earlier in the evening! I was stalking the treasury, checking the tab every few minutes, waiting for the number to fall eventually until it is below 333. My friend commented it is like keeping an eye on the share market, lol! But enjoy my less colorful theme for today, it is a little bit goth, a little bit enchanting. Dark and beautiful stuff. Hope you will enjoy!

Bracelets and Charms

What a busy start of the week! It was one work after the other and I only managed to have a breather after I got home. Lately, I found beading to be therapeutic for me, makes me relaxed and not needing to worry about stuff while I enjoy a TV show. Whether it be NCIS, Criminal Minds or Six Feet Under. (Yes I'm a bit of a TV show addict) I'm the type of people that can't just sit there and watch TV, I need to do something. It can be sketching, doing a lineart, painting, chatting, eating, whatever. I just need to multi-task! And lately beading had been added to the roster.

Anyways, on to my latest creations during the weekend part 2! As usual.

♦ All prices include shipment!
♦ Item will be shipped via registered air mail. ♦
♦ International shipment usually takes 10-14 days. ♦
♦ E-mail me at kyonpichi@gmail.com for orders! ♦

(I really need that 3rd column)

These are the pearl bracelets that I mentioned I did in the weekend! They look GORGEOUS in real life! My photos just don't do them justice!

Title : Romantic Grape Wine
Status : Sold
Price : USD20.00

Title : Blueberry Chocolate
Status : Available
Price : USD20.00

And below are the phone charms I made up till now. I think I made like... 5 phone charms? The one in the photo on the top of the post is one of them too. But that's mine, I figured I should make one for myself and see how sturdy it is. The only problems I had was the jump ring opening and the charm falling off. But I had that fixed by using a looped split ring (much like a keychain) so now it wouldn't be able to break if you don't try hard enough. :)

All phone charms has a silver strap, you can see more pictures in my Etsy listing of the individual items.

Title : Butterfly In The Bush
Status : Available
Price : USD9.50

Title : Key To The Red Room

Title : Key To Her Heart

Price : USD9.50

Title : Kiwi Vine

This Is Addictive

So I went SPAAAARTAAAAAA in the weekend and made like, two bracelets, three pairs of earrings and one phone charm. Plus I also did the packaging design for the bookmarks, earrings and phone charms which can be seen below.

To tell the truth, I really like it! The envelopes had been sitting around since my high school period when I actually had pen pals. (how nostalgic) While nowadays I have digital pals, ahaha! The brown card are actually cut-up UPS envelopes, and the decorative paper are leftover wrapping paper laying around. All recycled materials!

Although I made a lot of things, I think I will keep this post earrings-only first, since I have like... eight pairs now! I swear, I never imagined making earrings can be so addictive! Also I don't want to bombard you with too many images per post. As usual...

♦ All prices include shipment!
♦ Item will be shipped via registered air mail. ♦
♦ International shipment usually takes 10-14 days. ♦
♦ E-mail me at kyonpichi@gmail.com for orders! ♦

Perhaps I should make this blog 3-columned so I could keep policies like this always visible on top. Hmm... worth checking out in the future! It's also worth noting that I raised the price in my Etsy store a wee bit, following some advice I read about in the Etsy forums. Apparently some people would question why is your items so cheap? (since mine already includes shipment) And it might give the impression that something is wrong with the item. So raising the price might actually attract more buyers!
